Yesterday, I enjoyed lunch with three of my former Oweek group students to celebrate their Rice graduation (this Saturday). It is wonderful to see the growth and maturity of these soon-to-be my peers in the adult world. Graduation is like a launching pad for every kind of rocket imaginable. Or a field of kite fliers. For each kite or rocket, there is common ground for the launch. And there are oh so many beautiful paths to the sky.
Of the three former Oweek group members from fall 2006, one is headed to med school, one is jumping in to Teach for America as a first step in her career path, and one is – like me, 30 years ago – looking for a public relations and/or design job.
Wiess graduates, a toast to you: fly high in your skies, start your retirement savings this year, and cook well.
