Green Beans

Quick Steamed Green Beans

In a pinch, these quickly steamed green beans are a fast and healthy vegetable side dish.

  • 1.5 to 2 pound cellophane package washed and trimmed green beans
  • 2 Tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 1 teaspoon butter or light olive oil

If green beans can be steamed in package, follow instructions on the package.  If the package doesn’t say you can steam the beans inside the cellophane, place them in a microwave-safe bowl.  Add the water and cover with a micro-wave safe lid or seal with plastic wrap.  Cook on high for 5 minutes.  Add salt, pepper, and butter or oil. Toss lightly and serve hot.  Makes 4 hearty servings or 6 small to medium sized servings.
