Pantry Basics

  • 1 loaf sliced bread (white or wheat)
  • 1 jar peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
  • 1 jar jam or preserves (grape, strawberry, or apricot)
  • 1 box Ritz crackers
  • 1 box Wheat Thins
  • 1 box Triscuit
  • 1 boxes cereal (Frosted Mini Wheats, Pops, Apple Jacks, or granola)
  • 1 box granola
  • 1 large container Greek-style yogurt, or 1 multi-pack yogurt cups, for breakfast (minimum 6 servings)
  • 1 gallon milk (whole, 2%, 1%, skim, or soy)
  • 8 oz or more block cheddar cheese to eat with apples or crackers
  • 12 eggs
  • 1 box Kraft Macaroni and Cheese
  • 2 boxes Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mix with Hershey’s syrup
  • 8 apples
  • 8 pears
  • 10-15 clementines (about 1 bag)
  • 8 bananas (buy slightly green)

Ingredients for this Week’s Recipes

Produce

  • 1 bunch celery (Chicken Almondine)
  • 3 medium yellow onions
  • 1 small red onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 green chili (like jalapeno)
  • 6 ears corn
  • 2-3  zucchini squash, enough to fill 2 cups when diced
  • 2 bunches fresh basil
  • 1 bunch cilantro
  • 2 limes
  • 1.5 to 2 lb cellophane bag of fresh green beans
  • 4 sweet potatoes or yams
  • 1 package spinach salad

Canned Goods

  • 1 can cream of chicken soup (for Chicken Almondine)
  • 8 oz can sliced water chestnuts (for Chicken Almondine)
  • 4 oz can sliced mushrooms (for Chicken Almondine)
  • 1 can stewed tomatoes

Dairy, Refrigerator Section

  • 6 eggs (if you don’t usually buy eggs for your basic pantry supplies)
  • 1 small container milk (only if you consistently use all the milk in your basic pantry supplies for other meals)
  • 1 small container sour cream (for Chicken Almondine)
  • 1 can Crescent rolls (for Chicken Almondine)
  • 1 box butter or oleo-margarine sticks (like Parkay, Blue Bonnet, or Imperial)
  • 2/3 cup (about 4-6 oz) shredded Swiss or Monterry Jack cheese (for Chicken Almondine)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar or blend (Mexican, Italian, etc) cheese for tomato basil quiche

Baking Aisle, Spices

  • 1/2 cup (about 4 oz) slivered almonds
  • 1 small bottle apple cider vinegar (check supplies, you used this in week 6 and probably have some left)
  • 1 small bottle olive oil (check supplies, you use this a lot and may have some left over)
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder (check supplies, should have this from week 12)
  • 1 small container flour (about 1 pound)
  • 1 small box or bag powdered white sugar
  • 1 cup (6-8 oz) chopped pecans, walnuts or almonds
  • 1 small bottle vanilla extract (check supplies)
  • 1 small can shortening or 1 small package shortening sticks
  • 1 small bottle dried basil
  • 1 small bottle dried oregano

Bread, Cereals, Coffee & Tea

  • 1 container (4-6 pieces) prepared cornbread from the bakery section, or buy ingredients to make your own cornbread for the pork chop meal

Dried Beans, Rice, & Pasta

  • 1/4 cup dried red kidney beans
  • 1 box Success brand boil-in-bag white or brown rice

Condiments

  • 1 small jar Kraft mayonnaise (for Chicken Almondine)

Frozen Foods

International Foods

  • 1/2 cup urad dal sabut (black skinned lentils with white inside, whole not split)
  • 1 small container garam masala
  • 1 small container dry Indian red chili powder, can substitute Western chili powder if you can’t find the Indian kind
  • Optional for daal 1 small container Hing, also known as Asafoetida (Caution: this stinks so badly you have to store it outside; when cooked, it no longer stinks but replicates the flavors of garlic and onion in strict Jain and some Hindu cooking)
  • 1 can Lite Coconut Milk
  • 1 box Taste of Thai Peanut Sauce Mix
  • 1 small bottle Fish Sauce (check supplies, you should have a lot left from week 7)

Cleaning & Storage

  • toilet paper (buy a minimum of 1 roll per person per week)
  • 1 roll paper towels (if using as napkins with meals, buy two rolls)
  • recycle your plastic grocery bags as trash can liners or buy can liners
  • air freshener for bathroom and kitchen
  • quart-size and gallon-size Zip-loc bags

Meat

  • 1 pound chicken breasts (for Chicken Almondine)
  • 1 pound chicken tenders for Thai Peanut Chicken
  • 1 package (3/4 to 1-1/2 pounds) pork chops (we prefer boneless breakfast-style, but you might like thicker cuts)

Vegetarian Substitutions

  • You can try 1 box of fresh mushrooms for the meat in Chicken Almondine or just cook something else.   The ingredients for Chicken Almondine have been noted in this shopping list so you don’t have to buy them if you aren’t cooking that entree.
  • 1 package pre-cut extra firm tofu or 1 package Morningstar Chickn Nuggest for Thai Peanut Chicken
  • 1 package (4 pieces) Italian style Smart Sausage to replace the pork chops
