This week’s shopping list begins with the basics, as usual, and then lists the items you need for your recipes. Check supplies for several ingredients which you should still have on hand from previous weeks.

Pantry Basics

  • 1 loaf bread (white or wheat)
  • 1 jar peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
  • 1 jar jam or preserves (grape, strawberry, or apricot)
  • 8-12 oz block of cheddar cheese to eat with crackers
  • 1 box Ritz crackers, Wheat Thins, or Triscuit
  • 1 box microwave popcorn (6-10 bags)
  • 2 boxes different kinds of cereal (Frosted Mini Wheats, Pops, Apple Jacks, or granola)
  • 1 gallon milk (whole, 2%, 1%, skim, or soy)
  • 1 tub soft-spread butter or margarine (also known as oleo or oleo-margarine)
  • 6-12 eggs
  • 1 small bottle canola or corn oil
  • 2 boxes Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mix with Hershey’s syrup
  • 8 apples
  • 8 pears
  • 8 oranges
  • 8 bananas

Ingredients for this Week’s Recipes

Produce

  • 4 large poblano peppers
  • 3 ears of corn
  • 1 bunch fresh cilantro
  • 3 yellow 1015-style sweet onions
  • 1 ginger root, about the size of your palm
  • 1 bunch bok choy
  • 2 pods garlic
  • 1 jalapeno pepper
  • 1 pound fresh asparagus
  • 1 package fresh basil
  • 1 container grape tomatoes
  • 1 lemon
  • 4 large beefsteak-style tomatoes (about 8 ounces each)

Canned Goods

  • 1 15-ounce can pineapple chunks, canned in juice (see sauce below)

Dairy

  • 1 pound butter sticks or oleo margarine sticks (now called vegetable spread sticks, brands like Parkay, Imperial, Blue Bonnet)
  • 1 package shredded Monterrey Jack cheese
  • 1 8-oz package shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 15-oz container ricotta cheese
  • 1 16-oz container cottage cheese
  • 1 small package shredded or grated Parmesan cheese, not the dry kind in the can

Baking Aisle

  • 1 box or small bag light brown sugar (BBQ chicken) – check supplies first
  • 1 small bottle dried oregano
  • 1 small bottle dried basil
  • shortening
  • flour
  • baking soda

Cereals, Coffee & Tea

  • 1 cup strong, black coffee (for BBQ chicken) – just buy a cup from Starbucks if you don’t make coffee

Dried Beans, Rice, & Pasta

  • 1 box Success brand brown rice (4 bags)
  • 1 8-oz package lasagna noodles
  • 1 24 oz.  jar Classico sweet basil marinara sauce (Lasagna)

Condiments

  • 1 jar creamy peanut butter (if you don’t have enough leftover peanut butter from previous weeks)
  • 1 small jar honey
  • 1 bottle Del Monte ketchup
  • fancy mustard

Frozen Foods

  • 1 package frozen bell pepper strips (Sweet & Sour Pork)

Cleaning & Storage

  • toilet paper (buy a minimum of 1 roll per person per week)
  • 1 roll paper towels (if using as napkins with meals, buy two rolls)
  • recycle your plastic grocery bags as trash can liners or buy can liners
  • quart-size and gallon-size Zip-loc bags
  • 1 can Pam or other cooking spray

Meat

  • 2 pounds chicken breasts (BBQ Chicken)
  • 1 pound extra lean ground beef or turkey
  • 12 oz chicken breast or tenders (Sesame Chicken)
  • 1-1/2 pounds boneless pork tenderloin, cut into 1-inch strips
