Apple Pie

This is a traditional apple pie, consisting of apples mixed with a little sugar, cinnamon and butter and baked inside a double pie crust.

  • 4 apples, peeled, sliced and chopped to small pieces
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1-4 Tablespoons butter, margarine, or buttery vegan spread
  • Double flaky pie crust
    • 2 cups flour
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 3/4 Cup shortening
    • 4-5 Tablespoons ice water

Prepare the apples, then mix the cinnamon and sugar together and scatter over apples in a bowl. Toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate until pie crust is ready.

Heat the oven to 375° F.

Make the double pie crust by sifting the flour and salt, then blending in the shortening and finally adding the ice water. A pastry blender will make this a snap.

Roll out the first crust with a little additional flour to prevent sticking. Line your pan with the crust and add in the apples.

Top with small pieces of butter, margarine, or buttery vegan spread.

Roll out and cut the second pie crust to fit the top of your pie. Place on top of apples and butter, then cut slits in the top.

Bake at 375° F for 30-45 minutes.
