Sausage Rice Casserole

Jimmy Dean Sausage Rice Casserole

  • 1 lb. Bulk pork sausage (Jimmy Dean Regular flavor)
  • 1 Cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 Cup celery, chopped
  • 1 Cup onion, chopped
  • 1 ½ Cups uncooked rice
  • 2 Cans Swanson’s clear chicken broth
  • ¼ to ½ Cup soy sauce

 

Brown sausage.  Remove from skillet, leaving drippings.  Brown pepper, celery and onion in drippings.  Add browned sausage.  Place raw (uncooked) rice in bottom of greased casserole dish.  Then put sausage mixture on top of rice.  Mix chicken broth and soy sauce together and pour over sausage mixture.  Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 ½ hours total:  the first hour bake the casserole with a cover, or covered with foil; the last 30 minutes, remove cover to crisp top of casserole.  If you have a slow oven, the total cooking time might be as much as 2 hours.  No salt needed, soy sauce provides seasoning.
