Tips for newly on-your-own cooks

  1. Start slow: cook only one thing each day (like a pot of beans) instead planning to cook a full spread of entree, salad, and sides.
  2. Go easy your first week of cooking on your own; buy pre-cooked and sliced chicken or frozen packages of ready-to-cook meals like Orange Chicken or pasta dishes.
  3. If you have time to practice in Mom’s kitchen over the summer, take advantage of her ingredients and cookware.
  4. Start with Week One cooking for the simplest dishes and slowly advance with the following week’s recipes.

The menus, recipes and shopping lists in this blog were created for four roommates, I’ll work on cutting down quantities for single cooks over the summer.

Happy cooking!
