she ain’t no Julia Child

This site is for people who need to be able to fix and enjoy a good, basic meal at the end of a hectic day of classes or – at some point in the future – work.  Whether you get jacked off-campus or are facing life after graduation, you can learn to create a meal for yourself and your roommate(s) by following simple instructions.

The author of this site has no aspirations to equal famed cooking expert Julia Child.  This site isn’t about fancy cooking, it’s about home cooking.  Fortunately, Houston has an abundance of world cultures, so home cooking here can easily include Gulf coast seafood, Tex Mex, Southern soul food or country cooking, Thai, Middle Eastern, Indian, and many other ethnic dishes and U.S. regional favorites.

This blog includes tips and recipes gleaned from other people’s cooking and baking successes, accidents and errors.  But you will definitely make your own mistakes and find items we over-looked.  Please enrich this site by sending your comments and suggested revisions to carlyn at rice dot edu.

Let’s get cooking!
