While waiting for waters to recede following Hurricane Harvey, I started making kolaches as soon as we got our power back. Our home did not flood and my baking would go to various friends and neighbors as they began their recovery work.
Unfortunately, my enthusiasm led to more dough than fillings. With no way to get additional ingredients (roads still closed, stores not yet open), I started searching the cupboards for alternatives. Raspberry jam worked quite well until it ran out.
Then I found several dessert ingredients and Turtle Kolaches were born.
