- Pastry for single crust pie (uncooked)
- 2 Tablespoons butter or oleo
- 1/4 Cup sugar
- 1-1/2 Cups sugar
- 1 Cup milk
- 2 heaping Tablespoons flour
- 2 Tablespoons oleo
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla
Roll out the pastry and spread 2 Tablespoons butter over the pastry with a butter knife. Sprinkle 1/4 Cup sugar over butter. Roll into thin tubes and bake about 20 minutes at 350°F. Break into pieces in a serving bowl.
In a 3-quart sauce pot, mix the 1-1/2 Cups sugar, milk and flour. Cook on medium high (7 or 8 on a scale of 0-10) heat 7 minutes, stirring frequently until smooth. Increase heat to high (9 or 10 on a scale of 0-10) to bring sauce to a boil and keep stirring while the sauce boils. Total cooking time on high heat is 7-10 minutes. Remove from heat and add oleo and vanilla. Pour over “butter rolls” and serve warm.
