This week’s shopping list begins with the basics, as usual, and then lists the items you need for your recipes. Check supplies for several ingredients which you should still have on hand from previous weeks.

Pantry Basics

  • 1 loaf bread (white or wheat)
  • 1 jar peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
  • 1 jar jam or preserves (grape, strawberry, or apricot)
  • 1 jar Nutella
  • 1 box Ritz crackers, Wheat Thins, or Triscuit
  • 1 box microwave popcorn (6-10 bags)
  • 2 boxes different kinds of cereal (Frosted Mini Wheats, Pops, Apple Jacks, or granola)
  • 1 gallon milk (whole, 2%, 1%, skim, or soy)
  • 1 tub soft-spread butter or margarine (also known as oleo or oleo-margarine)
  • 6-12 eggs
  • 1 small bottle canola or corn oil
  • 2 boxes Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mix with Hershey’s syrup
  • 1 12-16 oz. package dry pasta (spaghetti, rotini, bow-tie, etc.)
  • 1 24 oz.  jar Classico sweet basil marinara sauce
  • 8 apples
  • 8 pears
  • 2 oranges
  • 8 bananas

Ingredients for this Week’s Recipes

Produce

  • 1 container grape or cherry tomatoes (about 2 cups) cut in halves
  • 1 bunch parsley (for Italian flavor) or cilantro (for Spanish flavor) in Shrimp & Pea Pasta
  • 1 head lettuce, shredded
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 small red onion, chopped
  • 1 package fresh basil (or get a tube of Gourmet Garden Basil paste)
  • 1 ginger root, about the size of your palm
  • 2 pods of garlic
  • 3 yellow onions
  • 1 bunch green onions
  • 5 pound bag Russet Potatoes
  • 1 head bok choy
  • 1 medium to large red or yellow bell pepper
  • 1 package snow peas (6 – 8 oz)
  • 1 package shredded carrots (1-1/2 cups minimum)
  • 1 lemon
  • 10-ounce bag chopped romaine lettuce
  • 1 box strawberries

Canned Goods

  • 1 can vegetable broth
  • 1 quart (32 oz) chicken broth (vegetarians substitute 1 quart vegetable broth)
  • Ham Base – condensed ham broth found in soup section; omit for vegetarian potato soup
  • 1 small can bamboo shoots
  • 2 small cans sliced water chestnuts
  • 1 can (10-12 oz.) English peas (small green peas), drained

Dairy

  • 1 pound butter sticks or oleo margarine sticks (now called vegetable spread sticks, brands like Parkay, Imperial, Blue Bonnet)
  • 1 package (2 cups minimum) shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Baking Aisle

  • 1 small package slivered almonds
  • 1 small bottle poppy seeds
  • 1 small package Kosher salt or sea salt (small chunks of salt pieces instead of fine grains)
  • 1 package seasoned salt like Tony Chachere’s or Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1 box or small bag dark brown sugar
  • 1 box Argo corn starch – check supplies first, you should have a lot left from weeks 5 and 7
  • 1 small bottle vanilla extract – check supplies first, you bought some in week 7
  • 1 small bag (1-2 pounds) flour
  • 1 small bag (1-2 pounds) sugar
  • 1 box Hershey’s cocoa powder – check supplies first, you bought this in week 5

Cereals, Coffee & Tea

  • 1 round tube (18 oz) regular or old-fashion Quaker Oats, NOT 1-minute oats, quick cooking oats or individual packets of oatmeal

Dried Beans, Rice, & Pasta

  • 1 box Success brand brown rice (4 bags)
  • 6 oz. whole-wheat spaghetti (less than a full box or package, save the rest for another meal)

Condiments

  • 1 bottle white wine vinegar – check supplies, you bought this in week 5
  • 1 small bottle extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 medium to large jar Hellmann’s Light mayonaise (need 2 cups for Seven Layer Salad)
  • 1 package crisp bacon bits OR substitute Baco’s for vegetarians
  • 1 bottle sesame oil – check supplies, you should have some left from week 6
  • 1 bottle Tamari (premium soy sauce, contains more soy beans than regular soy sauce) – check supplies, you should already have this from week 7.

Mixes & Packaged Dinner Starters

  • 1 box Romano’s Macaroni Grill Chicken Marsala with Linguine
  • Frozen Foods

  • 1 10-0z. package frozen green peas
  • Cleaning & Storage

    • toilet paper (buy a minimum of 1 roll per person per week)
    • 1 roll paper towels (if using as napkins with meals, buy two rolls)
    • recycle your plastic grocery bags as trash can liners or buy can liners
    • quart-size and gallon-size Zip-loc bags
    • 1 can Pam or other cooking spray

    Meat

    • 1 pound chicken tenders (Chicken Marsala)
    • 1 pound lean beef, sliced thin and cut to thumb-size lengths
    • 1 pound Gulf coast shrimp, or the closest, freshest shrimp you can get
