Don’t print this list from the blog. The navigation menu on the blog is really long and this jacks with the printing. You’ll waste a lot of paper without getting everything on the list. Copy to Word or a text file and print from that.
NOTE: peanut butter appears on your list twice this week, just in case you are one of the people who skips over the first section of the weekly shopping list (stuff you buy every week). You will find it again with the baking ingredients because you need it for Tony’s Tiger Bites but you only need one container.
Costs: On August 29, 2010 the full shopping list below totaled $175.00 and most the of the ingredients were purchased at Food-a-Rama (similar to Fiesta), with the hard-to-find items like extra lean beef and vegetable broth coming from Randall’s. The reason this week’s total is higher than previous weeks is due to some new spices you haven’t purchased before. Their expiration dates will be at least 18 months away though so they will last a long time.

Meat? Check with your roommates to find out if you can buy chicken, ground beef (at least 95% lean), or pork. If you add meat to this week’s cooking, buy the following:
- 1-pound package chicken tenders (for Garlic Chicken)
- 1-pound package chicken breasts (for Rosemary Chicken)
- 1 pound extra lean ground beef or turkey (for Italian Meatloaf)
Vegetarians: buy additional quantities of celery, onion, and bell pepper and saute 2 cups of mixed, chopped vegetables to replace meat in recipes. If you are familiar with how to prepare firm Tofu, use it in the Garlic Chicken and Broccoli recipe. There’s not much you can substitute for the beef or turkey in the Italian Meatloaf, so just pick a recipe from another week to substitute for this dish.
- 2 bunches celery
- 4 onions
- 4 bell peppers
- 1 12-oz. package extra firm Tofu
Necessities that don’t go in the pantry
- toilet paper (buy a minimum of 1 roll per person per week)
- 1 roll paper towels (if using as napkins with meals, buy two rolls)
- recycle your plastic grocery bags as trash can liners or buy can liners
- air freshener for bathroom and kitchen
