- 1 loaf sliced bread (white or wheat)
- 1 jar peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
- 1 jar jam or preserves (grape, strawberry, or apricot)
- 1 jar Nutella
- 1 box Ritz crackers
- 1 box microwave popcorn (6-10 bags)
- 2 boxes different kinds of cereal (Frosted Mini Wheats, Pops, Apple Jacks, or granola)
- 1 gallon milk (whole, 2%, 1%, skim, or soy)
- 12-18 eggs
- 2 boxes Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mix with Hershey’s syrup
- 8 apples
- 8 oranges
- 8 bananas (buy slightly green)
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds – look in baking goods section of store
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds (different than sliced; slivered don’t have outer skin and are cut like match-sticks)
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans, about one package
- 1 cup dry roasted peanuts – buy a jar, you used them in week 1 but the leftovers are usually eaten as snacks
- 1 small bottle vanilla extract – check supplies you probably have some left from week 3
- 1 bottle cooking sherry, unless you know someone who will give you 1/4 cup of the real deal
- 2 boxes Kraft Macaroni and Cheese
- 1 box cornstarch – look in baking goods aisle
- 1 jar dill – look in spice section of baking goods aisle
- 1 jar multi-spice mix, like Asian Five Spice powder or Indian Garam Masala
- 1 bottle Tamari (high grade soy sauce, contains more soy beans than regular soy sauce)
- 1 package rice stick noodles, look in Asian section
- 1 small jar Thai red curry paste or one package Taste of Thai red curry mix
- 1 bottle fish sauce – check supplies, you just bought this last week
- 1 bottle red wine vinegar – check supplies, you needed this in weeks 5 and 6 already
- 1 jar sweet pickle relish (need 1 cup for Penny’s Pasta Salad)
- 1 bottle Tabasco sauce – check supplies, you probably have some left from week 5
- 1 large can Dole Mandarin orange sections (16-20 oz)
- 12 oz small or medium shell pasta
- 4 medium yellow onions
- 2 pod of garlic cloves
- 2 cups fresh green beans
- 1 bunch celery
- 2 bell peppers
- 1 package whole carrots
- 1 package shredded carrots
- 1/2 cup bean sprouts
- 5 medium to large Russet potatoes
- 2 bags romaine lettuce mix
- 1 lb green cabbage (about 1/2 of a medium sized head)
- 2 large tomatoes (for Vietnamese Beef, Penny’s Pasta Salad)
- 2 Roma tomatoes (Cabbage Salad)
- 4 lemons
- 2 limes
- 2 cups (1-2 packages, depending on size of bag) sugar snap peas or snow peas
- 1 bunch green onions (also known as scallions)
- 1 bunch fresh parsley, curly or flat (Cabbage Salad calls for flat, Chicken Francaise calls for curly, just buy one kind)
- 1 bunch watercress, can substitute raddichio, arugula, radish sprouts or cilantro (for Vietnamese Beef)
- 1 bunch mint
- 1 bunch cilantro
- 1 ginger root, about the size of your palm
- 2 cans diced tomatoes (about 12-14 oz each)
- 1 box Minute boil-in-bage rice (about 1 lb.)
- 1 can baking POWDER – check supplies you bought this in week 4
- 3-4 cups flour and sugar for Brownie Pie, Chicken Francaise (check your supplies, you probably have enough left for this week’s cooking but you might need to restock)
- 1 9-inch glass pie plate, in addition to making Brownie Pie, you will use it to dip chicken for Chicken Francaise
- 1 spray bottle of Pam
- 1 small bottle extra virgin olive oil – check your supplies to see if you still have some from previous weeks
- 1 jar Miracle Whip (need 1-1/2 cups for Penny’s Pasta Salad)
- quart and gallon-size Zip-loc bags
- 1 container sour cream (need 1/2 cup for Penny’s Pasta Salad)
- 1 pint egg white mixture, found in dairy section with Egg Beaters and other egg substitutes
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, found in dairy section, get shreds in a package, not the dry crumbs in a tube
- 1/2 gallon Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream (goes with Brownie Pie)
Meat? Check with your roommates to find out if you can buy chicken, ground beef (at least 95% lean), or pork. If you add meat to this week’s cooking, buy the following:
- 1-pound package chicken tenders (for Chicken with Almonds and Sugar Snap Peas)
- 3 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts (for Chicken Francaise, which serves 8 people)
- 1-1.5-pound package chicken thighs (for Chicken Noodle Soup)
- 1 pound to 1.5 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts (Grilled Chicken Breasts)
- 2 pounds extra lean ground beef or turkey (for Wick Fowler’s Two Alarm Chili)
- 12 oz to 1 pound low fat or light beef kielbasa or other link sausage (carnivores, slice, saute, and add to Lima Beans while they cook for a hearty meal)
Vegetarians: buy additional quantities of celery, onion, and bell pepper and saute 2 cups of mixed, chopped vegetables to replace meat in recipes
